Why I Give: Nelson Eng ’06

Stony Brook means a lot to me. I was a transfer student who started in the Spring of 2003, and Stony Brook took a chance on me. I also met my wife at Stony Brook, and we attend homecoming and basketball games together. We recently attended the court-storming America East Championship game that sent our school to March Madness.

I’ve seen Stony Brook grow in the 10 years since I’ve graduated, and I want to play a part in that growth and help the school reach new heights. This can’t be done without great facilities, faculty and a loyal and philanthropic alumni base. Stony Brook has given me countless opportunities; therefore, it’s a small gesture for me to return my gratitude. I hope my donations provide prospective students with even better experiences than I had at Stony Brook. Better experiences are generated by better facilities and faculty.

In short, I hope my donations are able to help bring in world class faculty, to work in world class facilities, to generate future world class student leaders. Giving literally creates a warm and fuzzy feeling within. I’ve even extended my philanthropic enthusiasm by sending athletic highlights and campus construction updates, such as the Union and Melville Library renovations, to my alumni friends. I can’t wait until the Dubin indoor practice facility gets fully funded and built.
