The fall semester is around the corner and Stony Brook alumni are helping to welcome the incoming class to Stony Brook University. New Student receptions are hosted by Stony Brook alumni in their home or business. Hugh Lawrence ’92 will be hosting a new student reception at his home in Wappingers Falls, Dutchess County and John Lau ’70, ’73 will hosting a reception at his office in Somerset, New Jersey. New students and their families are invited to attend from these areas to meet their future classmates and hear from alumni and current students as they share their advice and Stony Brook experiences.
“The new student sendoffs have become an important and key component of the Association’s work with the Office of Admissions. At these regional sendoffs, we share some of the tremendous opportunities and resources available at Stony Brook, as well as provide a space for incoming students and their parents to hear from alums about their academic and campus experiences, career paths, job prospects and the overall value of the Stony Brook degree. As a parent, I can relate to the value of these conversations as it really puts to rest some of the anxieties associated with their child’s transition from High School to college. Having our alums share their time in this manner really showcases one of the many ways that our Alumni Association is a community that cares about the development and success of our undergrads,” said Bedel Saget, president of the Stony Brook Alumni Association and chair of the Association’s Admissions Committee.
Alumni and currents students from these areas are invited to attend. Would you like to learn more about attending or hosting a new student reception in your area? Click here or call the Alumni Office at (631) 632-6330.
