Stony Brook’s seventh annual Giving Day had another record-breaking year with the most supporters ever. For 24 hours, more than 3,800 alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends seized the opportunity to support areas of campus that mattered most to them. Donors to this year’s Giving Day increased by more than 18% over last year’s record total.

More than $1 million was raised for 150 programs and funds. By providing the critical resources that allow Seawolves to Be Unstoppable, the community unlocked opportunities for pivotal student experiences, research that reaches real people, healthier communities near and far, enrichment through arts and culture, and measurable climate progress.
“Giving Day is a remarkable day of generosity and an opportunity to energize Stony Brook’s unstoppable momentum,” said Stony Brook University interim President Richard L. McCormick. “Each gift drives innovation and excellence, empowering our students, faculty and medical professionals to excel and push the boundaries of their potential. Stony Brook is deeply grateful to our generous donors who made this year another record-breaking success.”
This year, the Giving Day advocacy program allowed all Stony Brook community members to raise even more support by setting their own matches and challenges. In addition, the MJS Foundation established a special opportunity that, together with the New York State match, more than doubled gifts for the Stony Brook Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship Fund. Knowing just how important it is to support multiple generations of students and create a profound impact on the university, the Stony Brook Alumni Association pledged an additional $30,000 challenge to inspire gifts to the Stony Brook Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship Fund.

“This year’s Giving Day is a true testament to our community’s engagement and commitment to supporting the university,” said Scott Barrett, interim vice president for advancement. “These gifts have unlocked tremendous opportunities for current students and faculty and built a foundation of support for generations to come.”
In addition, Stony Brook’s Alumni Association provided $10,000 for multiple challenges throughout the day, including $5,000 for the project with the highest donors during the 24 hours of Giving Day, which was the VIP Hockey Club with 277 donors.
The worldwide effort included support from 14 countries and 47 states.
