The Fulbright Program, which was created by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946, provides grants annually for international research and teaching to foster global partnership and cultural exchange.
This year Stony Brook set an institutional record for number of applicants (38), the number of semi-finalists (25), and the number of recipients (10, plus two alternates). The results more than double the previous record of four Fulbright scholars.
“These students shattered all of our previous institutional records,” said External Scholarships & Fellowships Advisor Jennifer Green. “I couldn’t be prouder of the way they supported each other and engaged with application process.”

“When I first took on the role of Fulbright Program Advisor, my goal was to put Stony Brook on the list of Fulbright Top Producers that appears in the Chronicle of Higher Education,” Green said.  “Thanks to this talented and hard-working group of applicants, we are well on our way there.”

“I am astounded every year by the knowledge and accomplishments of these students, and by the range of disciplines and ambitions in their projects,” said Karen Lloyd, assistant professor of art and member of the Campus Fulbright Committee.”
“Their remarkable successes are a testament to their drive, and to the energetic support of the staff in External Fellowships & Fellowships Advising, Lloyd said. “Working with Fulbright applicants I get to see the very best of Stony Brook University: inspiring students, dedicated staff, and collaborative faculty who guide students along their own paths.”
