Stony Brook Honors “40 Under Forty” Class of 2014

From near and very far, 29 members of Stony Brook University’s inaugural 40 Under Forty class joined Stony Brook President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, at a ceremony and reception in New York City to proudly accept their prestigious alumni achievement awards.
“Great universities are defined by the achievement and support of their alumni,” Stony Brook President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, told the honorees during the presentation. “All of you personify the power of a Stony Brook degree. You have demonstrated leadership and excellence in your chosen profession and in your communities.”

Selections to 40 Under Forty Class of 2014 were made based on the graduates’ achievements, whether in business, research, technology, healthcare, education or the arts; and their leadership, entrepreneurship and community engagement.

  • 30 of the honorees either live or were raised in New York.
  • Nine are chief executive officers.
  • 15 hold advanced degrees from Stony Brook University.
  • Five work in the health professions.
  • Two are professional athletes.
  • Five are professional writers.
  • Two are employed in public service.
