January 11, 2013 – Stony Brook University has received an $82,000 gift from Mark S. Eghrari & Associates, PLLC, of Smithtown, NY, to support the expansion of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. The gift will be matched by an anonymous donor, providing a total impact of $164,000. Eghrari’s gift will be used toward a major expansion of Stony Brook Children’s.

Established in 2010, Stony Brook Children is the only children’s hospital in Suffolk County. With 100 pediatric beds, more than 140 full-time pediatric physicians and surgeons in 30 different specialties, and over 200 voluntary pediatric faculty members, it offers a full range of comprehensive medical services for infants, children and teenagers.

“All children are deserving of the opportunity to enjoy a happy and healthy childhood,” said Eghrari, attorney and owner of Mark S. Eghrari & Associates PLLC, which concentrates in estate planning. “The services provided by Stony Brook Children’s are most essential to make this possible.”

Eghrari has been elected Chair of the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Task Force, a group organized in October 2009 to raise funds and awareness for Stony Brook Children’s.

“I look forward to working with Mark in his new leadership role,” said Margaret M. McGovern, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and Physician-in-Chief, Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital. “His generosity and commitment to Stony Brook Children’s will help us meet the growing medical needs of children across Long Island.”

Eghrari said he made the contribution in honor of his firm’s clients and as a way to express his appreciation of them. He and his wife, Elizabeth, both of Old Field, N.Y., had previously donated $25,000 to Stony Brook Children’s in 2011, also matched by an anonymous donor. In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Eghrari generously donates his time to Stony Brook.

In addition to his role on the Children’s Hospital Task Force, he also serves on the Stony Brook Medicine Development Council.
