Stony Brook University alum Katelyn Gleason, ’08, has been selected as one of Forbes 30 Under 30 innovators in Healthcare. She is CEO and co-founder at the startup Eligible, an online insurance verification network that has garnered $1.5 million in investments to date.

Katelyn saw the need for technological streamlining in the healthcare industry and acted. She was looking to put a stop to the endless paperwork and phone calling required every time a doctor’s office checks a patient’s insurance coverage. Her startup provides the medical field and insurance companies one-stop, online access to patient eligibility.

Eligible now makes it simple for healthcare engineers to pass and receive financial transactions with more than 1,000 health insurance companies nationwide. Transactions include queries to determine patient’s health coverage for certain services, claims submissions, payments, preauthorizations and more.

While at Stony Brook, Katelyn acted in several  productions, including Charles Mee’s “bobrauschenbergamerica” and Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice.” She was a treasured member of the Department of Theatre Arts. After graduating from the University summa cum laude with a BA in Theatre Arts, Katelyn became a professional stage actor in New York City while also working in sales. Before founding Eligible, she worked at an electronic healthcare records company.

Stony Brook alum Neha Kinariwalla also made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
