More than 3,222 gifts helped hold doors open for Seawolves everywhere. The success of Giving Day is undeniable, with more than double the amount raised last year.

Giving Day, March 29, 2023: Dollars Raised, $764,000: More than 3,222 gifts: Average gift of $123: 43% alumni, 25% faculty/staff, 21% friends, 5% current students, 3% parents: From 44 states and 11 countries

This could be seen in the smiling students enjoying ‘Gratitude Cafe’ after completing the “Seawolves Hold Doors Open” scavenger hunt and the waves of donations that poured in throughout the afternoon.

The Stony Brook University community gave $764,000 to more than 120 different areas on its fifth-annual Giving Day, supporting any combination of programs that matter most to them — whether scholarships, athletics, the arts, medicine or many others.

“It is inspiring to see our community come together in such a big way,” said Justin Fincher, vice president for advancement and executive director of the Stony Brook Foundation. “Once again, our students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends came through for Stony Brook. I am deeply thankful for everyone’s support and incredibly proud to call myself a Seawolf.”

The College of Arts and Sciences led the way with donors, netting more than 557 gifts from 511 donors. But Athletics garnered the most funds of any part of campus, receiving more than $325,000 in contributions from 387 donors.

“The community rallied around so many important fundraising initiatives this year,” said Brooke Carroll, assistant vice president of constituent experience. “It was an honor to witness the Stony Brook community’s strength, support, and generosity, as well as the incredible collective impact of every gift, no matter how small.”

Donors from 11 countries and 44 states held doors open by lending their support. Many of the contributions were inspired by the 55 matching gift opportunities and donor participation challenges made possible by generous alumni, friends and faculty.

There are still opportunities to contribute to Giving Day 2023 through April 12 at midnight. Visit the Giving Day page to make a gift.
