
Stony Brook University President Maurie McInnis was named by Long Island Business News as one of the “60 Most Influential Long Islanders.”
The publication listed a number of the university’s accomplishments during McInnis’ tenure as SBU’s sixth president, including:
- Stony Brook being designated as a flagship university by Governor Hochul in 2022
- Stony Brook ranked the number one public university in the stateand its highest-ever ranking, at #58, in U.S. News & World Report 2024 America’s Best Colleges
- The City of New York and The Trust for Governors Island selecting Stony Brook as the anchor institution to develop the New York Climate Exchange on Governors Island
- The Simons Foundation’s $500 million gift to Stony Brook University, the largest unrestricted endowment gift to a higher education institution in U.S. history
- The 2021 launch of the $75 million-dollar President’s Innovation and Excellence Fund, fully supported by philanthropic gifts, to enhance externally funded research on campus
- The Stony Brook Simons STEM Scholars Program, which will improve pathways to STEM careers and doctoral degrees for underrepresented students
