Dear Fellow Graduates and Colleagues,

We proudly present this newest edition of Medicine Today, highlighting the great news that continues here at Stony Brook.

In this issue, you’ll read about Match Day 2017, a nationwide event held by medical schools each March. Many of our School of Medicine Alumni Board members celebrated with the Class of 2017. We were particularly proud of our Board student representative, Kelli Summers, who matched at LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans for vascular surgery.

You’ll also read about how iPads for Medical Education have come to Stony Brook, as told by Mindy Baucicot and Rafael J Hernandez, School of Medicine students and members of the Class of 2020. The Class of 2020 is the first group of incoming medical students to adopt this technology — in the classroom and hospital setting —throughout their pre-clinical and clinical years.

Finally, the Class of 1986 recently returned to campus to celebrate their 30th anniversary weekend, and we’ll welcome at least three more classes for their reunions within the next six months, including the School of Medicine Class of ’12. If you are celebrating a milestone year in 2018, please contact Mary Hoffmann to start the reunion planning process.

Stay in touch and if we can be of assistance, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Debra Messina, MD ’88
President, Stony Brook University School of Medicine Alumni Board
