Jameel Warney ’16 celebrates AE tournament victory in 2016.

Stony Brook alum Jameel Warney ’16 led the US team to a gold medal in the AmeriCup Games on September 3, 2017, notching 21 points and seven rebounds to rally his squad past host Argentina. He potted two big free throws late to seal an 81-76 victory.

Warney, who most recently played for the G-League Texas Legends, can expect renewed interest from NBA recruiters after the stellar performance.

On March 12, 2016, he led the Seawolves to their first NCAA Tournament appearance by scoring 43 points in the America East Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament finals against Vermont. In a subsequent first round NCAA loss to the  Kentucky Wildcats, he led players from both teams in points (23) and rebounds (15).

He was named America East Conference Player of the Year three times, in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and graduated as Stony Brook’s all-time leader in points (2,132), rebounds (1,275), blocks (275) and games played.
