Gregory P. Conners ’89, MD, MPH, MD, FAAP, FACEP

2013 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Conners_croppedOriginally from the Rochester, NY suburb of Pittsford, Gregory P. Conners, MD, MPH, FAAP, FACEP received his BA with honors from Amherst College, MD from Stony Brook School of Medicine, and MPH and MBA degrees from the University of Rochester. His Pediatrics residency and Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship training were both at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC; he is board-certified in both of those areas.

He spent 15 years of his faculty career at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, rising to Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, and serving in a variety of leadership positions, including Director of the Rochester Early Medical Scholars Program, Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship director, University Faculty senator, Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Vice Chair, Associate Chair, and Interim Chair of Emergency Medicine. He is currently Director of the Division of Emergency and Urgent Care at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. The Division includes about 100 faculty members and nine fellows, who see 170,000 pediatric visits per year at five sites in Missouri and Kansas, as well as making significant research and educational contributions.

Dr. Conners is also Vice Chair and Associate Chair of Pediatrics, and Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He has been active in a variety of professional organizations, including the editorial board of Academic Emergency Medicine, serving as Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges-affiliated Group on Baccalaureate-M.D. Degree Programs, and is a member of the influential American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Pediatric Emergency.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and of the American College of Emergency Medicine. He has also had leadership roles in civic and service organizations. Dr. Conners is the author of over 80 published papers, articles, and book chapters. He has been honored as a “Best Doctor,” “Kansas City Super Doctor,” and one of “America’s Top Pediatricians,” and has won awards for research, educational, and academic activities.
