Future Forward: President Goldsmith Hits the Ground Running with Energy, Enthusiasm, Optimism

Stony Brook University President Andrea Goldsmith has officially been on campus for a week, and she has hit the ground running, stepping into her role with energy, enthusiasm, and a deep commitment to the SBU community.

Stony Brook’s seventh president has been hard at work for months, meeting with campus leaders, faculty, students, alumni and staff to ensure that her tenure begins with the same optimism and excitement that she has felt since being selected by the SUNY Board of Trustees in February.

That work has not gone unnoticed, as campus leaders, students and administrators from across the university’s East, West and Southampton campuses shared their thoughts on what President Goldsmith has already accomplished, and the qualities that she brings to Stony Brook.

“Because of her accomplishments and her vision, people will see her as a leader, but because of how she treats people, people will see her as one of us,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Carl Lejuez.

President Goldsmith’s leadership, collaboration and thoughtful listening have inspired the campus community.

“Her track record as an innovator, educator, and champion for equity positions her perfectly to guide us into what would be our next chapter,” said Judi Brown Clarke, vice president for equity and inclusion and chief health equity officer.
