The most prolific goal scorer in Stony Brook women’s lacrosse history, Demmianne Cook, has accepted an invitation to play for Team STX, the first elite post-collegiate women’s lacrosse team.

Team STX, which is sponsored by global sporting goods leader STX, LLC, is looking to change the landscape of post-collegiate women’s lacrosse by giving players the opportunity to compete at the highest level. It will also contribute to the company’s grassroots efforts to grow the game.

Cook rewrote the history books during her stellar two-year playing career at Stony Brook. The Nesconset, New York, native netted a school-record 158 career goals and led the nation with a program mark of 90 tallies, the sixth most in NCAA single-season history, in 2013. She helped the program that won just four games in 2011 win its first-ever NCAA game, an 8-6 victory against Towson on May 10, this past season by posting two goals and three draw controls.

One of the nation’s best two-way players, Cook also set a school record when she controlled 96 draws in 2013 and finished her career at SB third all-time in draw controls (157) and fifth in points (173).

The midfielder became Stony Brook’s first Tewaaraton nominee and was named to the watchlist for the prestigious award in each of her two seasons in Seawolves Country. Cook also garnered multiple All-America honors, being named one of the top players in the country by the IWLCA, Synapse and WomensLAX.com.

She recently played alongside fellow-Seawolf standout Janine Hillier at the IWLCA/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star game, where she stashed away two goals and had one assist to help the North to a 9-8 win over the South.
