Finding Love at SBU

Our alumni couples have found unique and generous ways to share the love they have for their alma mater. Here are two of a countless number of Stony Brook love stories.

Arlene Butterklee ’82, ’84 and Neil Butterklee ’80, ’82

Butterklees 1982Arlene and Neil Butterklee met during the fall of 1979 through their participation in the Fencing Club, and went on to receive both their undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stony Brook. Arlene received a degree in Radiation Therapy from Nassau Community College in 1995, and currently works as a Radiation Therapist at the Northwell Health System treating cancer patients. Neil received a Law Degree from New York Law School in 1992 and is now an Assistant General Counsel at Con Edison.

Butterklees 2015Arlene and Neil give back to their alma mater in many ways. They serve on the Stony Brook University College of Business Advisory Board, and they recently provided the funding necessary to supply the resources and technology within The Neil and Arlene Butterklee Finance and Behavioral Decision Lab.

When asked why share their love with Stony Brook, they said, “We were brought up to believe that higher education was the best way to ensure a good future. We are thankful for the education and experiences that we received at Stony Brook and are happy to give back to this wonderful university.”
