Dr. Kaushansky follows a long line of individuals committed to GNYHA’s principles of equity in access to high-quality patient care. As GNYHA Chair, Dr. Kaushansky will help shape the policies, projects, and advocacy efforts of the trade association, which represents more than 160 member hospitals and health systems in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

“In this era of rapid health care reform, we are very fortunate to have Ken Kaushansky as our new Chair,” said GNYHA President Kenneth E. Raske. “He is a proven leader, and his experience and wise counsel will help shape GNYHA’s advocacy in response to the many challenging issues facing the health care community.”

“I am honored to be appointed the new Chair of the GNYHA Board and look forward to working with my fellow Board members and the GNYHA staff on the myriad health care challenges before us,” said Dr. Kaushansky. “We must aggressively advocate for policies that ensure continued access to high quality, affordable healthcare for all patients. With all of the challenges facing our professions and facilities, especially over the past 6 months, the work of the GNYHA is more important than ever.”

Dr. Kaushansky has been at Stony Brook Medicine since July 2010. He previously served on the faculty at the University of Washington, rising to the rank of Professor. Following his service as Hematology Section Chief at the University of Washington Medical Center, Dr. Kaushansky was named Helen M. Ranney Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego in February 2002. He received his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles.
