Class of 1967: Almost 50 Alumni Attend 50th Reunion

Before Stony Brook became home to the Seawolves in 1994, it was for 30 years a haven to the mighty Patriots. Almost 50 such Patriots came back to campus on June 2–3, 2017, to celebrate their 50th reunion and alma mater.

Old friends, campus tours, and countless memories later, the weekend proved to be a nostalgic homecoming highlighted by conversations between alumni who hadn’t spoken in half a century and at least three couples who — having met as students on campus — used the event to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

With memories of tray sliding at St. Georges Golf and Country Club, antics in G Dorm and talk of the many snowstorms on campus, alumni took to the Seawolves MarketPlace to freshen up on spirit-wear before visiting old living quarters and University Archives to view a special collection of articles and artifacts from days gone by.

The group also returned to the classroom to hear Peter Small, MD, founding director of the Global Health Institute, talk about “Stony Brook University’s Pathways to Global Health.” Rideeta Raquib ’19 — the First Alumni Scholarship recipient — also addressed the group during a luncheon to speak about her dream to work in the field of oncology and medical research.

The weekend ended with dinner at Sunwood estate, where 36 alumni were inducted into the Brook Heritage Society, a Stony Brook tradition for alumni celebrating their 50th reunion.
