Career Center Provides Community Support for Job Seekers

Stony Brook University understands the challenges that members of the local Long Island community are facing in the current job market as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.   
Career center jobAs a way to help recent graduates and displaced workers navigate a difficult job market, the Career Center from the Division of Student Affairs is offering a two-day virtual workshop series, hosted by Senior Career Coach Marie Parziale. Co-sponsored by the Stony Brook Career Center, Alumni Relations and Community Relations Offices, these workshops will provide the tools and resources to improve the job search and are open to local community members and families of Stony Brook University faculty and staff. 
“In these difficult times, we are pleased to be able to lend our support to our local community,” said Rick Gatteau, Vice President for Student Affairs. “These workshops led by the Career Center aim to provide insights and tools to help enhance the job search.”

Session One: Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 7 pm to 8 pm
Resume/Cover Letter Review and the Value of Assessments
In session one, Sr. Career Coach Marie Parziale will share tips and resources with community members on creating and improving their resumes and cover letters for job applications. She will also discuss the value of assessments and how they can help prepare you for your job search.

Session Two: Friday, June 25, 2021 from 1 pm to 2 pm
Managing Your Job Search
In session two, participants will learn how to brand themselves throughout the job search and how to build and maintain a LinkedIn profile. Tips will also be shared on how to network using LinkedIn to stand out while looking for your next opportunity.
