Alumni Scholarship Golf Classic Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Raising Funds for Student Scholarships

For Stony Brook University alumni and friends, the Scholarship Golf Classic is more than just a fun day of golf; it’s an opportunity to do good by providing vital scholarship funds to students. That tradition is just as important today as it was two decades ago.

On Thursday, June 30, nearly 110 golfers came together at the Nissequogue Golf Club in Saint James, NY, to celebrate the 20th anniversary outing sponsored by Island Federal. This year, the Scholarship Golf Classic raised over $117,500 in scholarship support, providing critical funds to more than 420 deserving students throughout its history.

These funds help make the difference for several Stony Brook students, providing important resources to students who, like many of their peers, face financial difficulties throughout their academic careers, allowing them to successfully complete their degrees and prepare for their future.

For Cassandra Skolnick ’22, this support has made all the difference.

“When I learned that I would need emergency surgery last year, I went through a period of panic, concerned that I would not be able to financially meet the costs of both my surgery and the costs of attending Stony Brook University,” said Cassandra.

“Receiving the Larry Roher Entrepreneurial Achievement Award enabled me to continue my education at Stony Brook. I am sincerely thankful for the Stony Brook Alumni Association and so many other amazing alumni for having such a positive impact on my life.”

In addition to raising essential scholarship dollars for Stony Brook students, this year’s golf outing provided an exciting opportunity to bring alumni and friends together.

“Having the opportunity to connect with my fellow alumni in support of the next generation is really meaningful,” said Scholarship Golf Committee Chair Robert Cuccaro ’96, ’18. “It’s an honor to have been part of the outing on such a significant year.”
