Hello, my fellow Seawolves! Wolfie here, your No. 1 fan and professional high-fiver.
I don’t know about you, but I’m just bursting with excitement because Stony Brook University’s Homecoming is almost here! Each year during Wolfstock, our Homecoming celebration, I’m hyped to see alumni, friends, students, faculty, staff and the community come together to celebrate Stony Brook spirit. There’s just nothing like it.
If you haven’t attended before, you’re in for a real treat. From October 23 to October 26, the campus will be packed with events, activities and celebrations — truly something for everyone.
If you’re still not convinced, here are five things I absolutely love about Homecoming.
1. Get to Know Our New President
Now, I know it may seem like I’m the top dog around here, but you know I’m not missing the opportunity to hang with our new university president, Andrea Goldsmith. Starting with the Meet the President event on October 23, this is one of the best opportunities to meet her if you haven’t already, so be sure to say hi. I can’t wait to learn more about her, snap a picture and welcome her to her first SBU Homecoming.
2. The Homecoming Football Game and Tailgating Fun
There’s nothing like game day at LaValle Stadium and seeing the excitement grow throughout the day as we get closer to kickoff. The Wolfstock Village BBQ on October 25 is a can’t-miss tailgate opportunity with fun activities for all ages, photo booths and, of course, great food.
Then it’s time to bring the energy as our proud Seawolves football team takes on Towson at 3:30 pm. I can’t wait to run out on that field and wave our flag to a full stadium of cheering fans. It gives me chills every time!
3. Reconnecting With the Pack
Homecoming at Stony Brook is basically one giant pack reunion, and there are plenty of opportunities for our incredible alumni and friends to reconnect and celebrate together. Whether you’re looking to reunite with alumni from clubs and organizations you were part of or are celebrating a reunion, there are so many fun events that bring you right back to where it all started.
4. Picture-Perfect Moments
If you know me at all, you know I’m not camera-shy — and at Homecoming, there are just so many prime photo opportunities that you’ll want to get them all in. From the brand-new SBU Landmark Letters to the Staller Steps to Roth Pond, there are so many iconic Stony Brook locations to explore. My personal favorite? Obviously, it’s the Wolfie Statue. Strike a pose and let out your best Seawolf howl. And keep your eyes peeled — I’ve been known to photobomb a picture or two!
5. Pack Perks and Prizes
What better way to commemorate all the fun you had at Homecoming than with a fun keepsake? From stickers featuring me to our exciting collectible T-shirt giveaway for students, souvenir cups and the chance for two lucky students to win tuition or housing for a semester, there’s always something special to take home! But I guarantee you’ll leave with memories that last long after the weekend is over.
With so much going on over these four days, you’ll want to plan ahead. My recommendation to get the most out of Homecoming? Check out the full schedule of events, get your tickets and create a game plan.
Homecoming is my favorite time of the year because it’s all about pride, tradition and celebrating what makes Stony Brook so special. I’ll be front and center all weekend, so don’t forget to give me a high-five. I can’t wait to see you and the rest of our Seawolf family!
